Microsoft has finally released details regarding the HoloLens 2 since the first HoloLens was released two years ago.
Compared to the first HoloLens, it’s much lighter, compact, and comfortable. There are front and rear adjustable foam pieces that can be adjusted for better comfort and you can even clean the foam pieces. In addition to this, the HoloLens 2 allows users with glasses to wear them without any complications.
The HoloLens 2 has a more expanded view compared to the first HoloLens and uses mirrors, lasers, and upgraded processors to provide a more expanded field of view. In regards to how clear the display is, the display is equivalent to 2K resolution per eye. All of these upgrades are due to the Microelectromechanical system (MEMS) display developed by Microsoft.
Another feature added is cameras on the nose piece that use retinal recognition for the user to access the HoloLens, in addition to this capability the cameras can even measure the users’ pupillary distance to adjust the display image to your specific measurements.
For the first HoloLens, the user had to use a pinching motion to interact with their environment and it was difficult to use. For the HoloLens 2, users can naturally grab objects and is a more instinctive interaction compared to the first HoloLens.
The new HoloLens will be sold to businesses and not consumers, such as first-line workers who work on jet proposition engines or doctors for surgery and other medical applications. The HoloLens 2 is expected to be released later this year, probably during quarter four of 2019.
